Wuthering Heights- reviews

Hello readers

This post describes my personal perception about the novel, without any ill feelings for any character or the author.

Reading Wuthering Heights for me was more like, opening a surprise gift with a smile only to find out a skull inside, giving me a minor attack.

" A dark romantic tale well narrated and described in the isolated Yorkshire moors."

The classic masterpiece written by Emily Brontë, who chose to keep her main protagonists ( Heathcliff and Catherine ) as irrational and monstrous characters.

Starting with the positives - The characterisation of Heathcliff is incredibly strong. He is a boy, who is tormented by the world for being a non-blood, dark skinned and dark haired lad. As time passes, he stands up for himself and bites back, like a monster in seek to take revenge from his half-brother. Less he knows about the future consequences as he gets more tormented, but this time by his own deeds. His only redeeming quality is his unconditional love for Catherine, but that doesn't excuse his broody nature.

Why just him, even the other characters in the book like, Cathy and Hareton, they teach us about the cycle of violence and aggression.

This is a vindictive novel which deals with some very complicated individuals, but let me ease your mind by saying that it is balanced with goodness too. The gloomy journey through which Emily's imagination beholded me, there is still hope in Wuthering Heights that Cathy and Heathcliff were reunited in the afterlife.

If you appreciate unlikable characters and the wilderness in the background, then this story might interest you no matter how much screwed-up the faces in the novel are.

To my opinion, I had a terrible time reading it, majorly skipping the content to reach to the climax sooner.

Still you can give it a try Happy Reading :)
